This is a known issue which has been answered (and before asked)
several times in this mailing list.
For short: This error message does *not* mean that leafnode
(fetch in this case) doesn't perform it's tasks. It has just
cosmetical relevance.

In one of the answers on this topic Cornelius gave a solution to
make this message go away. I can't remember it because I was not
interested. I get the message everytime I start fetch but it
doesn't bother me.

I run leafnode 1.9.2 for some months now. Together with
emacs-gnus it's a powerful news system for a small site.
