[leafnode-list] Bandwidth limiter for fetch downloads?

Hello,

I posted a while ago to look for a way to have fetch go away gracefully
when my PPP connection got hung up, and I finally wrote up a shell script
that both kills hung up fetch and leafnode processes. I am running 1.8.1
right now and things are working fairly well and i dont want to bother to
upgrade. If anybody is interested in the script, email me and I will send
it to you.

Now I have another problem. When fetch runs, it connects to my local
ISP's news server and completely eats up all the available bandwidth I
have on my 56k modem connection. Network latency for anything
interactive goes skyhigh. When typing through on a ssh connection or
browsing the web takes FOREVER. I have looked high and low for a solution
for this and haven't had much luck, but thought I would try here. Is
there a way of having fetch *limit* the amount of bandwidth it uses when
downloading articles?? It would be perfect if I could set it to limit at
5 KB sec or 1.0 KB sec, leaving 70 % of my bandwidth free and open.

Has anyone run into this problem and have any solutions??

Thanks in advance..
