That doesn't sound like "all works fine". Please provide us with the
output of "telnet localhost nntp" (exit by typing "quit") and look 
whether a file /var/spool/news/leaf.node/groupinfo exists and what
it contains (should be lots of lines like the following one:

comp.os.linux.misc 1 1 0 Linux-specific topics not covered by other groups.

). Personally, I think your installation of Leafnode is somewhat flawed,
which is not surprising given the fact that you use SuSE... (*sigh*; my
estimate would be that about 3-5% of all Leafnode installations from
SuSE are broken).
