[leafnode-list] Timestamping of fetchnews -v output

I've been running leafnode for about a week now, with fetchnews running
from an hourly cron and texpire on a daily cron:

30 * * * * /usr/local/sbin/fetchnews -vvv >> /var/spool/news/fetchnews.log
0 5 * * * /usr/local/sbin/texpire

I am not a programmer, otherwise I'd be doing this myself. But has anyone
created a patch, or would someone be willing to create a patch to do
syslogd-style timestamping in the -v output for logging purposes?

Or failing that, can fetchnews log output to syslogd at all? It seems that
version 1.4 did, but 1.9.4 does not.
