[leafnode-list] leafnode hangs up on me

I'm having problems getting leafnode up and running.  I did the
upgrade to 1.9.9 for the Y2K problem, and my ISP had to change
something for Y2K, and I've had disk filling up problems, so it's not
necessarily a leafnode bug that something is screwed up.  However,
what's happening now is:

[root@serpent init.d]# telnet localhost nntp
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
200 Leafnode NNTP Daemon, version 1.9.9 running at serpent.local
Connection closed by foreign host.
[root@serpent init.d]# 

There are no relevant messages in /var/log/messages after doing this.

texpire and fetchnews are doing what I expect them to, but I can't get 
leafnode to talk to me or to my newsreader.
