Try installing hc-cron. It works exactly like vixie-cron. But it's for
machines that aren't on all of the time, or happen to multi-boot and may be
in a different OS or linux version.

It looks to see what was run last and compares it to what should have been
run since. It runs those things that were missed when crond starts.

I use it and it works peachy-keen.
