[leafnode-list] fetchnews won't read a group

I haven't read comp.os.linux.networking for a few months, but I'd like 
to start reading it again. It appears in my news reader (gnus) with 0
messages. I select the group, thinking that will cause fetchnews to
think that I want to read it again. It doesn't.

I tried unsubscribing and resubscribing. No effect.

So, how do I get fetchnews to download the articles in this particular 
group?
