Hi
Looks like you're right. Debug log looks like:

May 3 00:19:31 localhost fetchnews[683]: <200 Primenet NNRP Linkup
Established for @206.132.53.214 () (need authentication).
May 3 00:19:31 localhost fetchnews[683]: >MODE READER^M
May 3 00:19:31 localhost fetchnews[683]: <200 Primenet NNRP Linkup

May 3 00:19:31 localhost fetchnews[683]: >NEWGROUPS 000502 221900 GMT^M
May 3 00:19:31 localhost fetchnews[683]: <480 Authentication required for
command
May 3 00:19:31 localhost fetchnews[683]: >GROUP alt.autos.chevelle^M
May 3 00:19:31 localhost fetchnews[683]: <480 Authentication required for
command

Called ISP tech support and was told they don't support linux _or_ my
Windows news reader (Gravity), since the problem occurs with
Windows also.

Looks like I'm in the market for a new ISP.
Many thanks.
