Used -x 200 and pulled down 10 messages in uk.religion.pagan, 
but my newsreader (Agent) didn't receive any new ones. I telnetted 
to my NNTP server:

I then fired off a normal get, just using -vv and pulled down 3

It looks as if the active list isn't being updated after a -x which
pulls down stuff which is *after* it's previous recorded "high".

Any further information I can give you?
