Re: [leafnode-list] Problems with posting (was: no subject)

Detlef Jockheck reported that fetchnews 1.9.17 hangs upon posting
and provided the following debug log:

> Nov 23 19:53:09 java fetchnews[8805]: >GROUP de.test^M

fetchnews checks whether the desired group is available on the upstream
server.

> Nov 23 19:53:09 java fetchnews[8805]: <211 4198 150008 154205 de.test

It is.

> Nov 23 19:53:09 java fetchnews[8805]: >STAT <l1pjv8.3j8.ln@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>^M

Now fetchnews checks whether the desired Message-ID is already
available upstream.

> Nov 23 19:53:16 java fetchnews[8805]: <430 No such article

It is not, therefore...

> Nov 23 19:53:16 java fetchnews[8805]: >POST^M

.. fetchnews tries to post the article.

> Nov 23 19:53:16 java fetchnews[8805]: <340 340 <3a1d6a8e$0$18710$73bec562@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> (desired)

This is allowed by the upstream server. It suggests a Message-ID (which
is for the moment blissfully ignored by fetchnews).

Fetchnews now posts the article ...

> Nov 23 19:53:16 java fetchnews[8805]: >.^M

.. and ends with a single dot on a line, as demanded by the RFC.

Now nothing happens. The correct answer from the upstream server
should be a line starting with "240". Fetchnews waits for this
answer and therefore hangs.

I conclude that your provider has a problem with its NNTPserver.
