Leafnode will merge the group lists quite happily.

You'll get both versions mixed together.  When downloading articles from
the server the program will compare the list of articles it has with the
list the server has and download anything that it hasn't got already.

The articles will be posted to any upstream servers that carry any of
the groups being posted to.

1.9.3 is old and buggy - the latest version is 1.9.16.
