Hi,

Answering my on mail ;-)

I wrote

this is not totally true:
I had changed

    fetchnews --vv >> log

to

    unbuffer fetchnews --vv >> log

and this is causing groupinfo (and active.read) not to be updated.

So unbuffer is the cause of the problem.
It seems that the fork at the end of fetchnews.c doesn't work / isn't
reached any more.
BTW: what is this fork good for?
