This happens sometimes with misconfigured (?) INNs. If you execute the
command manually, you will see that news.cis.dfn.de will return two
lines of descriptions (which should IMO not happen):

LIST NEWSGROUPS alt.history.living
215 Descriptions in form "group description".
alt.history.living      A forum for discussing the hobby of living history.
alt.history.living      A forum for discussing the hobby of living history.
