That depends on the file system, this approach doesn't work on Linux'
reiserfs, for example:

$ df -T .
Filesystem    Type   1k-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda10 reiserfs   2088348   2034804     53544  97% /space
$ for i in 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 ; do touch `keygen`:$i ; done
$ ls -1U
09750e5500a0317519b7b8f86d74b154:8
04f4b1005d05b2eb650911ff5bc61b01:4
