Important changes:

user-visible

* switch to Stefan Wiens' texpire. It needed minor tweaks to work
  (Stefan, I dropped acount and used xcount from xoverutil.c instead to
  fix SIGSEGVs.)

* add a leafnode-version command for fun and no profit.

portability

* if pcre-config is present, it's used to determine the compiler and
  linker arguments needed to use PCRE. The FreeBSD kludge has been
  removed, the current PCRE port comes with pcre-config.

* merge NetBSD's casts to shut up cast alignment warnings in mergesort.c
  on e. g. Solaris/Sparc.
