It features many small fixes over 2.0b8_ma3, among them:

* non-working -F is now working, reported by John Covici
* various build problems with non-GNU make have been resolved
* a rnews dummy that prints a line on stderr and exits 1 is provided in
  C now (fixes make install woes)
* dependency tracking (manually) is fixed
* critmem*alloc now return void *, fixes cast alignment warnings on
  Solaris 8
* a lot of minor bugfixes to xoverutil.c, reported by Stefan Wiens
* fixes for out-of memory robustness in dirutil.c, reported by Stefan Wiens
* fix getfirstlast authentication kills reply bug, reported by Stefan Wiens
* fix memory leaks in fetchnews.c, reported by Stefan Wiens
* fix empty XOVER field handling, reported by Raymond Scholz, analyzed
  by Stefan Wiens
* fix building with PCRE outside the source directory on systems that
  don't have PCRE already installed

The package has been successfully compiled on Solaris 7 and Solaris 8
(ultrasparc) with gcc, with both /usr/ccs/bin/make and GNU make, FreeBSD
4.3/x86, SuSE Linux 7.0/x86.
