You mean, the messages do not end up in /var/spool/news/out.going/ ?

In that case, there is either something wrong with the permissions of
/var/spool/news/out.going/ (they should be drwsr-xr-x with user and
group "news"), or the communication between KNode and the nntpd does
not work properly. You can have a look at the latter by running leafnode
in debug mode and carefully reading the log files.
