Hi,

two months after my last release, I am offering a new release candidate
of the -ma series, 2.0b8_ma8rc1.

It has some new features, most notably support for moderated groups,
which has been provided by the work or Jörg Dietrich who sent two big
patches of excellent quality. It also features workarounds for major
NewsCache incompatibilites and tons of bugfixes.

Here are some highlights:

== FEATURES ==

- - a new "dontpost" server option; if set, that server is never fed with
  our upstream posts.

- - new support for a "NOPOSTING" environment variable. If set, leafnode
  turns into a no-posting news server. Particularly useful from
  hosts.allow or tcpserver+tcprules.

- - support for status chars (posting allowed/not allowed/moderated) --
  this will need some testing in real life

- - support for moderated groups -- this will need some testing in real
  life, both for local and upstream moderated groups.

== FIXES ==

- - reintroduce the workaround for the fucked-up NewsCache 0.99.17 that
  always responds with "223 0 <MID>" to "STAT <MID>", which made
  fetchnews lose upstream posts.

- - message.id/123/ directories are now created on the fly if missing

- - more robust (hopefully) time zone detection, fixing the logging time
  zone as well

- - no longer hangs indefinitely when something goes wrong after reading
  an article body via NNTP (reported by Jörg Dietrich)

- - PCRE update

- - many memory leaks plugged

- - error logging fixes

The format of the local.groups and groupinfo files has changed. Upgrade
instructions and a Perl one-liner to convert local.groups are contained
in the UPGRADING file in the .tar.bz2.

The new moderators file is compatible with that of INN, see INSTALL.
