[leafnode-list] Fetchnews getting list of all newsgroups

I am using leafnode very successfully, with KNode as local newsreader - 
except for one thing. Fetchnews seems to get the list of all newsgroups from 
the upstream server approximately every 24 hours. This means that it takes 
about 20 minutes to download the lisst once a day, then less than a minute to 
fetch the news I want. Other times, it works fine.

Fetchnews is being run from ip-up.  Red Hat Linux 7.1. - any other 
information of use?
