[leafnode-list] Permissions in /var/spool/news
I've got leafnode to work, up to a point. ?I can connect and apparently
download news group messages. ?But, nothing is actually present in the
directory ?/var/spool/news/interesting.groups
Now the FAQ with leafnode lists as a possibility the following two options
when fetchnews does not fetch any articles, so:-
1 ?Run fetchnews with the -f parameter. ?I have done this and it makes no
difference.
2. ?/var/spool/news may have the wrong permissions. ?/var/spool/news and all
its subdirectories should be drwxrwsr-x and owned by user and group news. ?I
am enclosing a cut and paste from the console to show the current set up.
linux:/var/spool/news # ls -l
total 48

I have to confess that I am scared to try and alter the permissions without
help. ?I think that I could alter the rwx permissions OK, but the "s"
permission baffles me. ?I've read my linux Red Hat manual on the subject of
File and Directory permissions with a dawning sense of horror. When it comes
to the chapter of how suid and guid fit into the picture I'm lost.
I am frightened to go changing the permissions and totally horse up the OS. ?
Can you help please?
