fly:~ # fetchnews -M '<dcoulm.y1yd6rbm91p.fsf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>' -vvvv
fetchnews mode: get messages by ID
found 0 articles in in.coming.
news.dfncis.de: connecting to port nntp
  trying: address 130.133.1.4 port 119...
  connected: address 130.133.1.4 port 119.
news.dfncis.de: connected (200), banner: "200 news.fu-berlin.de welcomes b0f13.pppool.de (213.7.15.19). Authorization required for reading and posting."
Getting articles specified by Message-ID
I have Article <dcoulm.y1yd6rbm91p.fsf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> already
0 articles fetched by Message-ID, 0 killed
fetchnews: 0 articles and 0 headers fetched, 0 killed, 0 posted, in 3 seconds

But some other hint:

I don't have a /etc/leafnode/moderators file, but leafnode was
complaining when I posted to the non-local moderated group
de.comp.os.unix.linux.moderated

,----[ news.err ]
| Sep 18 20:45:06 fly leafnode[13998]: Could not open /etc/leafnode/moderators: No such file or directory
