Using latest 2.0 snapshot, I still find that some groups are missing the placeholder articles.  Just now I set up a new user to the server, and tried to subscribe to two groups.  One of them had a placeholder, the other did not.  Both showed first and last article numbers as 1, but the group without a placeholder gave a 420 error.
