Texpire -r should be able to repair most of the damage (but be sure to
make a backup first.)
If you want to inject "raw" news articles files (just one header and one
body per file), you could do (untested, feedback appreciated):
tools/simple-batcher.sh file1.txt file2.txt | rnews.
