It looks as though the server did not respond to NEWGROUPS within
fifteen minutes, or its reply was hosed, or it paused for longer than 15
minutes between any two lines. Could you try to reproduce this
with debugmode=2?

BTW, if you find this is too expensive (hanging 15 minutes without
leafnode's doing anything), you can reconfigure timeout_client (as the
amount of seconds) -- try "timeout_client = 300" for 5 minutes, the
default is 900.

That's a consequence of the failed conversation.

Might be a real upstream problem then -- it does not look like a
leafnode problem. debugmode = 2 might turn up something else though.
