ah!  overlooked those.  does anybody else get this funny

  wrote 79 bytes  read 2112 bytes  876.40 bytes/sec
  total size is 3654264  speedup is 1667.85
  rsync error: partial transfer (code 23) at main.c(925)

when using:

  /l/src/rsync-2.5.5
  23 p1 # rsync --verbose rsync://www.dt.e-technik.uni-dortmund.de/leafnode-1 ?

seems to go with large directories.

the Faq-O-matic says it could have something to do with permissions,
but i was merely listing the content to see if it works.
