Ooops. Bug in README file, here's the correct sequence:
3. in your /etc/syslog.conf, add this line:
news.debug /var/log/news.all
There is a tab character between the columns here.
4. touch /var/log/news.all
5. kill -HUP `cat /var/run/syslogd.pid`

Got it: The article has no Message-ID: and is therefore ignored by
leafnode. (Note that all articles put into out.going by leafnode itself
do have the Message-ID header).
