[leafnode-list] Skipped messages with multiple news feeds

Hi,

I have been trying to use multiple newsfeeds with the same ISP so that I
get a fast, reliable service from their text only news server for text
groups, but am still able to access binaries on their regular (but slow
and unreliable) news server. In my config file, I have placed the text
news server first:

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
## This is the NNTP server leafnode fetches its news from.
## You need read and post access to it. Mandatory.
server = text.news.ntlworld.com
nodesc = 1
server = news.cable.ntlworld.com
nodesc = 1
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the following examples, I have snipped out references to groups that
are not relevant.

Example of working with one news server only:

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mar 2 15:52:01 cooper-linux fetchnews[26534]: Reading server info from
/var/spool/news/leaf.node/news.cable.ntlworld.com
Mar 2 15:52:05 cooper-linux fetchnews[26534]: alt.binaries.photography:
considering articles 236911 - 236950
Mar 2 15:53:36 cooper-linux fetchnews[26534]: alt.binaries.photography:
40 articles fetched (to 18854), 0 killed
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

This looks fine. All the articles that were considered have been retrieved.

Example when working with two news servers:

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mar 9 07:20:02 cooper-linux fetchnews[15343]: Reading server info from
/var/spool/news/leaf.node/text.news.ntlworld.com
Mar 9 07:20:03 cooper-linux fetchnews[15343]: Reading server info from
/var/spool/news/leaf.node/news.cable.ntlworld.com
Mar 9 07:20:04 cooper-linux fetchnews[15343]: alt.binaries.photography:
considering articles 237630 - 237677
Mar 9 07:20:05 cooper-linux fetchnews[15343]: alt.binaries.photography:
1 articles fetched (to 19294), 0 killed
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Out of 48 articles considered, only 1 was retrieved.

I have checked with telnet, and the text news server does not appear to
have the binary newsgroup at all, so I would not expect the call to the
text server to affect the retrieval of the binary groups from the main
server:

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
[root@cooper-linux leafnode]# telnet text.news.ntlworld.com 119
Trying 194.168.222.41...
Connected to newsfep4-glfd.server.ntli.net (194.168.222.41).
Escape character is '^]'.
200 ntl Cablemodem News Server (Typhoon v2.0.0)
group alt.binaries.photography
411 No Such Group
quit
205 GoodBye
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have I misunderstood the way that leafnode works with multiple servers?

Cheers,

Grahame Cooper
