[leafnode-list] findgroup ... called without prior readactive()

(running leafnode-2.0.0.alpha20030814a but I've just downloaded
alpha20031028a and can't see any sign of this in the ChangeLog)

This afternoon leafnode decided to reread the active files and
unfortunately on the last newsserver I got an error

news.ntlworld.com: connecting to port nntp
  trying: address 194.168.222.9 port 119...
  cannot connect: Connection refused

(yes ntlworld again....)

Then when I next tried to connect - having posted some messages I got

findgroup("uk.religion.christian") called without prior readactive()
5447 Aborted (core dumped) sudo -u news /usr/local/sbin/fetchnews -vvv

on any newsserver, I eventually tried moving the articles out of out.going
and another fetchnews which did another active group referesh and this time
- unfortuately for bug squshing - all the servers refreshed and I then
replaced the outgoing messages and they were posted.

I assume the crash is an unfortunate side effect of the (very welcome!)
send outgoing before retrieve incoming change?

gdb gave

(gdb) where
#0 0x400833d1 in kill () from /lib/i686/libc.so.6
#1 0x400831d8 in raise () from /lib/i686/libc.so.6
#2 0x40084979 in abort () from /lib/i686/libc.so.6

#8 0x40072082 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/i686/libc.so.6

As I've now got things back working updating to alpha20031028a - in a few
minutes - is unfortunately not going to tell me whether it's still a
problem!
