Nothing apparent and I haven't so far found this error anywhere in the
gnus or leafnode sources
Though I do see this in syslog

I've left the shorewall log in though I doubt if it is relevant, dial up
dynamic ip so I've left the ip address there, note the timed out connection
before trying a different incarnation of news.ntlworld.com
Other than that only a few newsgroup name conflicts on the first server

Difficult to tell now especially as logrotate runs on a Sunday morning
but there's currently 500meg free on /var and it has not been too
different for that for some weeks

df -hP /var
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target1/lun0/part5 1.1G 591M 436M 58% /var

...done off list, thanks, I've posted a message to gnu.emacs.gnus trying to see
if anyone else knows what's up, I can post, riun texpire and fetchnews but
the reading interface is a little iffy (knode appears to be ok too)
