This is strange. The two articles in question haven't been crossposted,
and 3611 kept articles in message.id versus 5204 in the group doesn't
look right.

No idea. Try this patch, modify syslog.conf to capture news.debug output
(see README's TROUBLESHOOTING section for details), give syslogd a
SIGHUP and run leafnode in debug mode, as shown below; add your own
options:

env LN_DEBUG=1 texpire -vvv

Then mail me the resulting debug log off-list.
