I haven't yet received the requested information, I'll assume it's a
local problem (file system corruption, unclean shutdown, crash,
whatever), not a leafnode bug.

fsck your /var partition, then run texpire -r. This should weed out the
duplicates and fix up message.id.

Make sure that you run texpire after a crash before running fetchnews.
