I've seen <m14q8t2lp3.fsf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> - I may have missed 
the previous post in the course of trying to sort things out.

That's a completely different line format from the ones in my groupinfo file!  
Mine is:

uk.religion.christian   m       469     2       1126344546      -x-

(yes, those are tab separators).

I've got an extra integer field, the moderation flag in the second field, and 
space (unused in this case, hence -x-) for a group description.

Just on the off chance, I tried pasting your line over mine in groupinfo - it 
didn't like it.  Fetchnews followed by trying to fetch new articles into my 
newsreader led to 'no such group', and when I looked at groupinfo again the 
line had disappeared: presumaly fetchnews spat it out!  Pasting the original 
line back in returns to 'normal service' - but still no posting to the 
moderation address. 

Are we talking about the same file?  Mine's 
at /var/spool/news/leaf.node/groupinfo
