Well, let's go for the fix, thanks to Martin's analysis (sorry for not
getting to it earlier, I have next to no spare time ATM).

Could please everyone affected by this issue (skipping to next server
after 423 errors) check the new 20061204a snapshot and see if fixes the
problem for you and let me know what you find.
