Thank you for that - I'll take a look.

In the meantime I discovered that this group of settings worked pretty 
effectively (can anyone say "ugh"? I can):

server = localhost
noread = 1
nodesc = 1
noactive = 1
feedtype = NONE


I think NETWORK=none might be just a teensy weensy tad cleaner, though :-)
