[leafnode-list] message archiving and searching

I'm using leaf node as an internal conference system and people have asked about
archiving messages.  What's the "best way" to archive messages so that the
current message pool remains relatively small (i.e. three months old) but all of
the older messages can be read.  One thought is to put them in a separate
newsgroup like "local.cooking.tomato.2007-1q"

A related message would be what tools would make sense for searching the archives.

They have 10 years of archives which started as news messages going to an
internal web bulletin board and now back to news messages.  What's the best way
to inject them?
