Yes, I'm using "tin -r".

I still don't follow how it's going to work though.  Some groups can
be very quiet for several days.

So, for example, say there are no messages in uk.comp.vendors for some
days so I don't actually enter that group with tin for that many days.
How does leafnode know to read a message that appears there after
several days of inactivity?

Yes, I suppose if I set timeout_long to a large number (like a couple
of months) then leafnode will probably do what I want.  A very quiet
newsgroup might still get missed though, there are some that stay
quiet for months and then burst into life.
