That's the situation - upon encountering invalid characters in headers,
leafnode deletes the offending article.

Check the function legalxoverline() near line 206 in leafnode 1's
xoverutil.c. It does not permit the ASCII DEL, control characters except
HTAB (ranges below ASCII value 32, and 127...159 inclusively).

Leafnode (both the 1 and 2 versions) predate RFC-6532 and have not been
updated to support it.
