Okay, second followup:

1) jpg is a compression format, not a storage format. 

2) jpg with 95% quality setting looks good, though it smears colors
   slightly, I cannot see a difference. 

3) is your logo.gif actually compressed? It's huge. 

4) file sizes: (jpeg with q 95%, optimize, progressive, float dct; png
   with gif2png -Osv (GIF 87a))

 1349 ./logo.png
 1463 ./logo.gif 
11546 ./logo.jpg
21264 ./logo.gif.orig

The difference is huge, isn't it?
