[leafnode-list] newsfetch and texpire problems

dear list.

i ve newly installed leafnode-1.9.18 and met some configuration
problems. when i excute fetchnews for the first time, it gets more than
the quantity of news spool storage which is about 1G, and it complains
that there s no room for new articles. (it retrieves *too old* articles
from the news feeding server.) how can i help it ? in addition, still so
many news articles are found in /var/spool/news/message.id/*, while the
expiration is set to be 3 days. of course, fetchnews and texpire are
registred in crontab, which are being executed every 4:00 a.m. and 4:30
a.m. respectively. are the articles older than the expiration time
eliminated from the day they are stored in spool directory ? or are they
eliminated when the posted date of them exceeds the expiration time ?

i want to keep the last-3-days articles. any single clue to solve the
problems will be greatly appreciated.

TIA.
