Yes, it does. I can't say if XRef is visible to the filter offhand. If
not, I'll make sure your filter (1) will work:

> pattern = ^Xref:.* gmane\.spam\.detected:
> action = kill
This might work. I'll check (unless you figure that out first :-)
Might also make a good example for filters.example if it works.

> pattern = ^Newsgroups:.*[, ]gmane\.spam\.detected$

That would only hide the spam, but not prevent downloading it.
