That's what I thought. Either the output lacked the trailing line that
consists of a single dot, or the server died while sending the
list. Either way, leafnode aborts when it has not received input it
expected within fifteen minutes.

To the actual problem: leafnode cannot fix it and cannot be made fix
it. It's an upstream problem. Go complain, and if that does not help,
switch ISP or negotiate NNTP exclusion for some GBP off and sign up for
another news server.
